Breakfast in 3rd Grade

About 8 years of age, my mom is working and my dad had gotten me up for school. I lived on Hope Street and went to the new Oak Park School on Garfield Avenue. I am sure most folks were having pancakes, french toast, eggs, cereal for breakfast but how boring!! My dad was not a cook but he was there, while mom was already at work, to make my breakfast. These were the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had and probably the best I will ever have as 'dad made them'. Who would have ever thought something like this would be a favorite memory!

Nona and Brenda, Sisters Forever

It is 3:47 a.m. I am watching the movie The Family Stone. Sybil the mom is dying of cancer. Something triggered a thought in my head about my sister, Nona, who died 19 Aug 1970 of Hodgkins Disease after 15 years of dealing with it. I have written blurbs about her at Remembering Nona and Cherry County Playhouse.

I don't know what age I was in this incident, I second guess around 13ish years of age. We were walking down Front Street in Traverse City and I have no idea what we were even doing. I can remember the block where we were walking but not sure why were there. It could have been going to the movies but I just don't recall or to visit my mom at her work. Two things happened in conversation that day. She said to me, "I don't want to be a millionaire I just want to have a few diamonds" and "I don't want to be filthy rich, I just want to be a little dirty." Which I always remembered and said it over the years. The other thing that happened one would have thought might caused me to "stumble in the street" but it didn't. She told me she was only my half-sister that my dad was not her dad. I don't know what prompted this as you can tell I don't have many memories of this excursion. I just know I told her I didn'
t care she would always be my sister. We then hugged right there and then. In thinking about this I got up and got on the computer and had to write about it as tears roll in her memory.

She was as much a mom as a sister but that is in the Remembering Nona story.

2nd View of Birth-Home of Frank Kratochvil b. 1844

Side View of Ondrejov Home #49 and the houses in the square.

The Kratochvil family lives in one of them now.
Not sure which one though. Researcher DID impart this information to me.Will add more data as time goes on.

Birth-Home of Frank Kratochvil, Ondrejov, Bohemia 1844

Homes in Ondejov, Bohemia are given house numbers when built. 1-2-3 does not mean they are next door to one another they may be on opposite ends of town.

This home is where Frank Kratochvil was born on 24 July 1844 to parents: Frank Kratochvil and Anna nee Simek. They supposedly moved to this home in 1842. The house is on the square across from the church and was remodeled to a shop. Photograph taken 2007

Ben Wolfgram, Garfield Road, Traverse City

Benhart Benjamin Wolfgram, father of Brenda and Ben. The yard he is in is the home of 'Sis' Hubbell sister to my step-aunt. For those familiar with Traverse City this photo is taken on Garfield Road next door to where Bonanza was and just across the street from where Oleson's was for many years (now Sav-A-Lot Apr 2008).

Believe it or not! if you look behind my father beyond where the stones are for flowers is Garfield Road. Only one other home was nearby - across the street and to the left of the photograph. My father loved his hats and wore them well, I think. ;)
